It’s derby day in Manchester on Sunday as City and and United go head-to-head to decide who gets to wear the big parka for the next few months.

Ruben Amorim’s side sit ahead of their noisy neighbours in the Premier League despite a tumultuous start to the season and might fancy their chances of an upset away win after City lost to Spurs and Brighton.

To assess their chances, we hauled Peter Crouch‘s considerable frame in to discuss Man City v Man United and give us his best bets, and if you really fancy it you can use this week’s FREE BET BUILDER on it – that’s the third of SIX free bets to start the season.

You’d think City would improve on last year with the signings they made over the summer, and they looked good when they beat Wolves 4-0 on the opening day, but they’ve lost both games since.

Omar Marmoush’s injury has been a problem for them, but it just doesn’t seem to be clicking in general. It’s still early days but after last season it’s a bit bleak start the season.

And it’s strange – there’s always turmoil at Man United it seems. but City are below them in the league going into this game, yet no one’s really talking about them being in a major crisis.

Rodri’s still working his way back to full fitness after his injury and that will make a difference. With Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders in midfield, Rodri can be the one that holds it all together, but at the moment they just don’t look like that unstoppable force they once were.

We all remember the way they could go and win 15 or more games in a row. They’ve not looked like that City this season at all.

And that gives some hope for United this Sunday.

The penalty in injury time against Burnley was huge. If they’d drawn – and they could’ve lost – that game it would’ve been very difficult to swallow considering they’d taken the lead twice.

And let’s be honest, it’s been poor under Ruben Amorim since he came in. The Grimsby game was such a low, losing to Burnley in the same week could’ve been very costly for the manager.

Replacing the goalkeeper was important. Emi Martinez seemed the perfect signing to me but that didn’t happen, and they’ve brought in Senne Lammens from Belgium instead. There will be questions until we see how he fares in the Premier League, but Andre Onana had to go as it just breeds indecision at the back when you’re not sure of your keeper.

I still worry about them defensively, and in midfield they still need something, but the signings of Mbeumo and Cunha look good to me in forward positions. Sesko still has to settle in, but going forward they have improved.

So it shouldn’t be complete doom and gloom yet at United.

Over 2.5 Goals

And, while I fancy City to win in the end, this will be a close game and I wouldn’t rule out a draw.

I’m sure United will score though, and both sides look like they’ll concede, so we could see a few goals which makes Over 2.5 appeal.

Erland Haaland to score

While City might look shaky defensively, they have Erling Haaland back and looking as dangerous as ever this season.

There was no doubt in my mind that he’d have another top season again this year, he’s well on the way to 30-odd goals already. Last season looks like an anomaly,

And he will win some of those games this season where City dropped points last year. Games like this one, so I’ll be backing him to score on Sunday for sure.

Tijjani Reijnders to score or assist

And the new man in midfield, Tijjani Reijnders, should get a look at goal again too.

He’s already shown he can lay on chances for others as well, so to score or assist makes sense against United as I expect a few goals in this.

Bryan Mbeumo to have 1+ shots on target

He’s got a couple of goals already this season and gone close to adding to that a few times as well. I like him to get another against City but will take him just to have a shot on target in our Bet Builder.

Bruno Fernandes to commit 1+ fouls

Bruno Fernandes is class act. I really think United need to get a bit more secure in midfield and let him go and play where he wants as he’s still by far the best player in the team and one of the best players in the league. I’m not sure they have that set-up right around him at the moment – it feels like he’s doing the job of two players at the moment.

He takes on so much I’d be surprised if he didn’t commit at least one foul in the derby.
