Holger Rune's mother predicts how long he will be out for after suffering horrific injury in Stockholm

Holger Rune appeared to be in excruciating pain after being forced to retire from his semifinal at the Stockholm Open.

Rune had already suffered an injury concern in Stockholm, but still decided to take to the court as he looked to win his first title since April.

However, things went from bad to worse for the Dane, with Rune left in tears after retiring from his semifinal against Ugo Humbert, despite winning the first set.

This appeared to be due to an Achilles injury, and now his mother has provided an official update on her son’s condition.

Not only is Aneke Rune the mother of Holger, but she is also his manager and deals with enquiries on his behalf.

After Holger left the court in some real discomfort, Aneke was in contact with Danish media outlet TV 2 Sport and provided an update on the situation, confirming everyone’s worst fears that he had in fact torn his Achilles tendon.

“They say it’s a torn Achilles tendon,” said Holger Rune’s mother. “We haven’t been scanned yet, but all the doctors here say they can see it with the naked eye.

She added, “There is no doubt. It is a torn Achilles tendon. It is three to six months out.”

While Aneke Rune has suggested that her son could only need three months on the sidelines, the general consensus appears to think that it is slightly optimistic.

That is at least the case for former top 300 ATP player Alexander Lazarov, who revealed that he has not fully recovered from rupturing his Achilles three years ago.

Lazarov wrote on Instagram, “I really, really hope it’s not a torn Achilles tendon. He said to the physio he heard his tendon “pop” and if that’s the case…he’s out for a very long time.

“I fully ruptured my left Achilles tendon in 2023 a few weeks before Roland Garros and I still haven’t recovered almost 3 years later. I had 4 surgeries because of many complications and I am still uncertain about the future of my career… I hope he’s okay.”

Boris Becker and Patrick Mouratoglou send messages to Holger Rune

The messages have come flooding in for the world number 11, with Casper Ruud also reacting to Rune’s injury.

This includes messages for Rune from two of his former coaches, Boris Becker and Patrick Mouratoglou.

While they are no longer working together, it appears that there is no bad blood and Becker wished Rune a speedy recovery on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Becker said, “Just heard on the news that @holgerrune2003 has torn his Achilles… Wishing him a full & speedy recovery!”

Mouratoglou coached Rune over three different spells, and has also sent a message to his former player.

The Frenchman simply wrote, “Tough to watch…[sad emoji].”

Rune is now expected to undergo scans to discover the exact diagnosis of his injury, with updates expected over the coming days.
