Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka appeared furious as Rishabh Pant’s wretched form continued in the ongoing IPL 2025. Pant, the LSG captain, was caught and bowled by Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Eshan Malinga on 7 off 6 prompting Goenka to leave the team’s balcony from where he was watching the contest.

The incident happened in the 12th over of the LSG innings at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday night. It was a do-or-die fixture for the franchise as they needed a victory to stay alive in the IPL playoffs race. While LSG batters delivered by posting a mammoth total of 205/7, their bowlers failed to defend the target as SRH completed the chase in 18.2 overs.

With that, LSG failed to qualify for the playoffs for the second time in a row.

Pant has managed 135 runs from 11 innings in what is his maiden season with LSG after joining the franchise last year for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore that made him the costliest player in the history of IPL auction.

Pant has scored one half-century so far and has a strike-rate of 100. On the other hand, as many as three LSG batters have scored over 400 runs each with Pant being his team’s seventh highest run-getter.

It was LSG’s seventh defeat in 12 matches and Pant attributed the failure to ‘gaps’.

“Definitely it could have been one of our best seasons but coming into the tournament we had a lot of gaps, injuries and as a team we decided to not talk about that, but it became difficult to fill those gaps for us," Pant said during a chat with the broadcasters.

“The way we planned the auction, if we would have had the same bowling… but this is cricket, sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t, we take pride in the way we played and take the positives from the season than the negative side," he added.
