Pakistan completed a 3-0 series whitewash over Sri Lanka with a comprehensive 6-wicket win in the third and final ODI of the series on Sunday, November 16 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi. After being put in to bat first, Sri Lanka were bundled out for just 211 in 45.2 overs as Mohamamd Wasim Jr (3/47) ran through their batting.

In reply, Pakistan comfortably chased down the target in just 44.4 overs, riding on half centuries from Fakhar Zaman (55 off 45) and Mohammad Rizwan (61* off 92). Hussain Talat also made a valuable contribution of 42* (57). For Sri Lanka, Jeffrey Vandersay (3/42) was succesful in triggering a mini collapse in the middle overs.

However, an unbeaten 100-run stand between Rizwan and Talat off 122 balls took Pakistan over the line. Mohammad Wasim Jr was adjudged Player of the Match for his three-wicket haul while Haris Rauf was bestowed with ‘Player of the Series’ owner for taking nine wickets from three innings at an average of 18.33.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka squandered another strong platform and were bowled out for a below-par 211, despite six of their top seven batters getting starts. Sent in to bat, Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara provided a bright opening, taking the score to 55/0 inside eight overs. However, both departed in quick succession: Nissanka chopped Haris Rauf on for 24, while Mishara edged Wasim Jr for 29 in the 12th over.

Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama attempted to steady the innings with a 43-run partnership, but just as Sri Lanka regained control, the middle order faltered again. Wasim bowled Mendis for 34, and although Samarawickrama battled on, Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage fell cheaply, leaving the innings teetering at 143/5.

Samarawickrama’s 48 came to an end when he was bowled by a sharply turning delivery from Faisal Akram, opening the door for Pakistan’s bowlers to finish the job. Both Faisal and Rauf ended with two wickets apiece.

Pawan Rathnayake attempted to push the total higher with a lively 32, but with no support from the tail, he was run out in the 46th over, bringing Sri Lanka’s innings to a close.
