Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has parted ways with coach Goran Ivanisevic after just two tournaments together.Ivanisevic joined Tsitsipas’ team after the French Open and was in the stands for Tsitsipas’ Wimbledon campaign, where the former world No.3 retired in the opening round with a back injury.Ivanisevic, a former Wimbledon champion and coach of Novak Djokovic, publicly slammed Tsitsipas for his preparation ahead of the grand slam tournament.Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today“If he resolves certain off-court issues, he’ll have a chance to return to where he belongs, because he’s too good to be outside the top 10,” Serbian network Sport Klub earlier this month.“He says he wants to (return to the top level), but he’s not doing anything. It’s always ‘I want, I want,’ but I don’t see any progress.“I was shocked; I’ve never seen a more unprepared player in my life. With this knee, I’m three times fitter than him. It’s really bad.”Tsitsipas and Ivanisevic only lasted two tournaments together. Credit: GettyIvanisevic later said Tsitsipas wasn’t happy with the public criticism, but the Greek star never addressed it.But three weeks later, the coach has officially been let go.Tsitsipas, who has now tumbled to No.29 in the rankings, announced Ivanisevic’s departure on social media.“Working with Goran Ivanisevic was brief but an intense experience and a truly valuable chapter in my journey,” Tsitsipas wrote.“I’m thankful for the time, effort and energy he dedicated to me and my team.“As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran — not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person.“I wish him nothing but the very best moving forward.”It continues a tumultuous period for the two-time grand slam finalist, who recently split with girlfriend Paula Bedosa.The pair, who started dating just over two years ago, have unfollowed each other on social media and have erased all traces of their relationship from Instagram.Tsitsipas and Badosa’s relationship has had a rocky history, including a well documented reconciliation in May 2024 after a break earlier that month.At that point, it appeared the pair had put their differences behind them.“We are together,” Tsitsipas said at the time.“Some people have made up stories about us, but Paula didn’t do anything wrong and neither did I.“It had been difficult for us to be apart and I have been through some very difficult times.”The duo, which were dubbed ‘Tsitsidosa’ during their time together, are yet to make public comment on the situation, but it’s understood they have split amicably.As well as a successful five-year stint as Djokovic’s coach, Ivanisevic has worked with Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych, Marin Cilic and Elena Rybakina.
