Who is Viktorija Golubic? Alex Eala’s quarterfinal opponent at the Suzhou WTA 125

Alexandra “Alex” Eala is heading into another quarterfinal match this year, this time at the Suzhou Open WTA 125.

In the quarterfinals, scheduled for Friday, Eala will face Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.

Golubic, 32, is currently ranked No. 70 by the Women’s Tennis Association. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 35 in 2022 and has won two WTA titles.

She also reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2021.

The Swiss player is coming off a 6-2, 6-3 win over compatriot Rebeka Masarova in the first round, followed by a victory against Czech player Linda Fruhvirtova in the second round.

The 20-year-old Eala, meanwhile, defeated Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa in the first round, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, and Belgium’s Greet Minnen in the second round, 7-6(5), 6(3)-7, 7-5.

This is Eala’s fourth consecutive quarterfinal appearance since her title run at Guadalajara 125. After that, she also reached the quarters at the SP Open and the Jingshan Tennis Open. This marks her sixth quarterfinal appearance this year, including the Miami Open and Eastbourne Open.
