The Asia Cup is a men’s cricket tournament held every two years to crown the continental champions.Organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), the Asia Cup was established in 1983 and first held a year later at Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).Although the Asia Cup cricket tournament was contested in the 50-over ODI format for its first 12 editions, the tournament has been played on a rotational basis between ODIs and T20Is since 2016.To date, the Asia Cup has been played in the T20 format only twice - first in 2016 and then in 2022. All the other 14 editions of the tournament have been held in the ODI format.Apart from the traditional continental heavyweights like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, associate nations like Hong Kong China, United Arab Emirates and Nepal have also featured in the Asia Cup in the past.Sri Lanka hold the record for most Asia Cup appearances, having featured in all 16 editions so far.India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have recorded 15 appearances each, while Afghanistan have played in the tournament four times.Asia Cup cricket winners list
