Euro 2024 is now in full flow as international football takes center stage over the next month. Liverpool and its rivals though are working hard behind the scenes ahead of the new season.

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes are now officially in place at Anfield, and they’ll be working hard on adding to the squad already in place as they look to continue the good work of Jurgen Klopp.

Of course, Manchester City is always an obstacle for the Reds, and there are suggestions they could extend Pep Guardiola’s stay at the club. What’s more, another rival looks to have made the first move for a player linked with a move to Anfield.

Man City prepares huge Pep Guardiola offer

Manchester City is preparing to offer Pep Guardiola a huge increase on his current $25m-a-year (£20m/€24m) salary in order to keep him at the club, according to The Mirror. The former Barcelona boss has just a year left on his contract with the Premier League champions.

City owner Sheikh Mansour is claimed to have welcomed Guardiola to his home during the week for a meeting. The club is said to be determined to do all it can to convince the 53-year-old to extend his stay, despite City fighting their 115 Premier League charges.

Liverpool.com says: Good to see City aren’t letting those pesky charges get in the way of them throwing around more cash. To quote Homer Simpson: “Oh, by the way, I was being sarcastic.”

Guardiola signing a new deal at City wouldn’t be good news for Liverpool or the rest of the Premier League. He’s already spent longer at the club then he did in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined, so you would imagine he might be starting to think of his next move. Fingers crossed that’s the case anyway.

Tottenham makes first move for Takefusa Kubo

Tottenham has made a bid for Japan international Takefusa Kubo, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. The Real Sociedad winger is also linked with Liverpool, although the Reds’ Premier League rivals may have stolen a march on them.

Spurs’ offer is said to be below Kubo’s $63m (£50m/€59m) release clause, meaning the race for his signature is still on. Manchester United is also reported to be interested in the 23-year-old.

Liverpool.com says: It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool does go after a new forward this summer. With the ongoing uncertainty around Mohamed Salah’s future, plus Luis Diaz being linked with a move away, the Reds may need to hatch a plan soon, and Kubo could be in the conversation, especially with a release clause like that.
