No call on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's India A participation yet; both available for Australia ODIs

India A are set to play three List A matches against Australia A and the TimesofIndia.com has learnt that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be forced to play in the series and their participation. If at all it happens, it will only happen if they need game time before the tour of Australia, where the Men in Blue will play three ODIs.

The Indian selectors are set to get into a huddle to pick the India A ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia A and the chatter around Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's participation is getting louder. The three games will be played on September 30, October 3 and October 5 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. It is learnt that both Rohit and Kohli will not be forced to play in the series and their participation, if at all, will only happen if they need game time before the tour of Australia, where India will play the three ODIs. Both the senior cricketers are available for the series as of now and Rohit is expected to lead the side Down Under.

"See it's highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. No call has been taken on that and it will not be forced upon them too. Only if they need some game time, you could see them play one, or even two, games before the Australia ODIs. But nothing has been finalised yet. They are very much fit and available for the Australia ODIs," a senior BCCI official tells TimesofIndia.com. "Before the selectors decide the India A squad and then the India squads for Australia tour, Irani Cup squad will be announced and some selectors are set to watch the Duleep Trophy final in Bengaluru while Ajit Agarkar is with the team in Dubai," adds the official. Recently, both Virat and Rohit underwent fitness tests in preparation for the limited over contests. Virat's fitness test was done in London, whereas Rohit Sharma went to the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for the same.

"Those were the routine fitness tests. All the contracted players go through the fitness test twice a year. Nothing unusual there or something which affects or will have a say in selection," says the official. Apart from the senior pros, most of the centrally contracted cricketers went through routine assessments and more are likely to be there after recovering from their respective niggles and injury concerns.
