Football fans are only just realising that Liverpool's manager full first name is not actually Arne Slot.

The Dutchman has done a sterling job in his first season at the helm at Anfield since replacing Jurgen Klopp last summer, taking the Reds to the brink of another Premier League title.

But his real name has confused a number of fans, who took to social media to express their shock upon discovering it.

One user wrote: 'Just Googled this. Not sure I'll ever recover,'.

A second added: 'I need to sit down'.

A further comment read: 'I was today years old when I found this out'.

But fans are only just realising that his full name is not in fact Arne Slot

His full name is Arend Martijn Slot, with Arend being the Dutch word for eagle that was given to him by his father.

It comes after Slot refuted claims that the Premier League had become weaker during his first season in England - with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham failing to live up to fans' expectations with their performances.

Slot said: ‘Arsenal don’t have to win the Champions League because we are all sure that the Premier League is by far the best league and the most difficult league in the world. I don’t think anyone can debate that’.

‘Is it stronger than the season before or two or three seasons before? That’s up to everyone to debate.

'But when you see Aston Villa being so good against a team (PSG) that together with Man City have unlimited amounts of money to spend - the team that is seventh in the Premier League were unfortunate not to go to extra-time like we did against PSG but they deserved it.

'And that could be an example of saying “yes, the Premier League is really good at the moment”.

'But others could come up with reasons why it isn’t as good as it was last season or the season before. The amount of points could be an argument.

'City, a few years ago, got 100 points and then Liverpool had 99. Was that the best Premier League ever or was it too easy for Liverpool and Man City to win their games? You can look at things whichever way you want.

'I don’t care how other people look at it. The only thing I care about is the league table. I like to look at it at the moment - and I hope I can still like to look at it in one, two, three, four, five or six games.’
