Nick Kyrgios reacts to Bernard Tomic defeated by Learner Tien, ATP Challenger final record

Nick Kyrgios could only laugh at fellow Aussie tennis villain Bernard Tomic's latest on-court fail.

Tomic was defeated in the shortest-ever ATP Challenger final on record, falling in straight sets to America's Learner Tien.

The 39-minute demolition saw Tien carve up the Australian 6-0, 6-1 in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Tomic's run to the final was the best result he has produced since 2018 but his triumphant week quickly turned to disappointment with a horrendous display in the final.

The match duration was four minutes faster than Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's victory over Dudi Sela in 2019 in Cassis, France.

It was pointed out by a user on X that, ironically, Tomic also recorded the quickest ATP Tour loss a decade ago.

In responding to that fact, Kyrgios reposted with just a laughing face emoji.

"It feels like we just did the introductions," ATP Challenger commentator Mike Cation said.

"That is what happens at the end of the week when somebody who is a veteran has put in that much effort through the week.

"That next level of keeping on pace with a player of Learner Tien's calibre... it is certainly a great step."

Tien's victory could have come sooner had Tomic not produced an incredible comeback to save three break points and force an additional game in the second set, escaping an embarrassing double bagel.

Tomic coughed up six double faults against Tien, who converted five from nine break points and collected 50 points.

"Once I lost the first two or three games, it was tough mentally staying on track," Tomic said post-match.

"I'm sorry I couldn't keep with my legs."

It is the second unwanted ATP Tour record held by Tomic, who was also on the losing end of the fastest ever ATP Tour level match against Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in 2014 in Cassis, France.

In that match, the former world No.17 was also defeated 6-0, 6-1.

Tomic's ranking has improved following the defeat to Tien, who claimed his third Challengers championship title, with the Aussie climbing to 207th in the world.
