Kamran Ghulam put his name on the honours board list after his hundred in Test debut for Pakistan against England in Multan on October 16, Wednesday. Ghulam wrote his name on the honours list, where the likes of Abdullah Shafique, Salman Ali Agha, Shan Masood, Harry Brook and Joe Root were also the latest inclusions. The Pakistan batter looked all smiles as he posed with the honours board list. Kamran Ghulam became the 13th Pakistan cricketer to score a century on Test debut. At 29, he is the second-oldest Pakistani to achieve the milestone, following Abid Ali, who did it in 2019.

Ghulam earned his opportunity after replacing Babar Azam, who was dropped for the 2nd and 3rd Tests against England. Seizing the moment, the seasoned domestic player looked composed from the start, handling England’s spinners with confidence on a pitch favoring spin. His 192-ball hundred showcased his grit and determination, bringing up the milestone with a boundary.

Kamran impresses on debut

The Pakistan dressing room, led by head coach Jason Gillespie, gave him a standing ovation, while Mohammad Rizwan, batting at the other end, celebrated warmly with Ghulam. Pakistan were in early trouble after losing Abdullah Shafique and captain Shan Masood cheaply, but Ghulam and Saim Ayub steadied the innings with a 149-run partnership for the third wicket. Ghulam was particularly effective against spin, using the sweep shot to great effect. Even against Ben Stokes' reverse swing, he displayed soft hands to avoid giving away catches in the slips.

Ghulam has been a prolific performer in domestic cricket, with 4,377 runs in 59 first-class matches at an average of 49.17, including 16 centuries. His standout season came during the 2020-21 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, where he became the first player to score over 1,000 runs in a single edition.

Despite his domestic success, Ghulam’s journey to international cricket has been challenging. He gained early attention at the 2014 ICC U-19 World Cup, where Pakistan finished runners-up, but had to wait years for a Test debut. Although named in squads for the Bangladesh series in 2021 and Australia in 2022, he did not get a chance to play. His only prior international appearance came in January 2023, when he featured as a concussion substitute in an ODI against New Zealand but didn’t bat or bowl.

Ghulam’s long-awaited debut finally allowed him to showcase his talent on the big stage, making it a moment to remember.
