Celtic fans react as club confirm date and kick-off time for Premier Sports Cup clash vs Falkirk

Celtic learned their opponent for the second round of the Premier Sports Cup last weekend.

The group stage of the competition was wrapped up on Sunday with St Mirren beating Ayr United 2-1 in Paisley, with the draw taking place afterwards.

The Hoops were handed a good home tie against Falkirk, who are managed by former Celtic staffer John McGlynn and earned promotion into this season’s Scottish Premiership.

Celtic played Falkirk at the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final stage last season and secured a thrilling 5-2 victory over the Bairns at Parkhead.

Now, date and kick-off details for this season’s upcoming cup clash with Falkirk have now been confirmed by the SPFL.

Celtic very rarely get to experience the thrill of Friday night football at Parkhead – but that’s exactly what they’ve been given for the Falkirk game.

The last 16 tie will take place at Celtic Park on Friday, August 15 with kick-off scheduled for 19:45 BST.

The Hoops have two league games before that against St Mirren on Flag Day this Sunday and then Aberdeen away the following weekend.

It’s safe to say the confirmed date and kick-off time for Celtic vs Falkirk has gone down very well with some Hoops supporters.

However, others are not too pleased and voiced their disapproval.

Reacting on social media platform X, @AGCeltic_ wrote: “7:45 on a Friday? Do not mind it”.

@JosephB97101651 simply posted: “Love it”.

But @Mk2Maverick said: “Ridiculous! No thought given to the large Irish travelling support who can’t possibly make that game!”

@AngieCa26314731 published: “Seriously – do you ever defend our fans, a Friday night for this after agreeing to 4:30 on second day, Sunday for flag day. Do you actually care about our fans? Falkirk fans must be fed up too as the were often stuck with a Friday night last season. Time we lost Premier Sports”.

And @B_Doherty_HWFG stated: “Terrible kick off time”.
