Raya aims for hat-trick after second Golden Glove

After retaining the Premier League Golden Glove award, David Raya has already set his sights on making it a hat-trick next season.

Our shot-stopper managed to retain the award thanks to his 13 clean sheets, which saw him finish level at the top with Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels at the top of the standings to complete a pair of Golden Gloves.

David becomes only the fourth goalkeeper in history to retain it, after Liverpool's Pepe Reina and Manchester City pair Joe Hart and Ederson, and our number one will look to join an exclusive club of just Reina and Hart who achieved three in a row.

“I am delighted to keep it,” David said. “As I've always said, it's not just me, it starts from everybody on the pitch and it's a collective effort, even if it’s the keepers who get the award, but it's just great for the team as well.

“Every award is special but the way we defended this season, we had a lot of injuries and different back fours. Today we played with KT in the centre-back and Zinchenko came back in as a left-back and Kuba as a right centre-back and Ben White as a right-back. That just shows the willingness to keep doing the right things and credit to everybody who helped the team to keep their feet.”

David has become the first goalkeeper to win it in successive seasons since Ederson in 2021/22, and it is a feat that no Gunners goalkeeper has ever achieved before as he writes his name in our record books - something he is delighted with.

“It is a special moment,” he added. “To do something like this at this amazing club and put something into the history of the club, it's incredible. I'm very, very proud to achieve this, so now let's go for the third one.”

The shot-stopper also received plenty of praise from Mikel Arteta, who was keen to praise the staff who work with our shot-stoppers all season long, and challenged everyone to be as rock-solid next season in our quest to grab some team silverware.

“A big credit as well for David, Inaki [Cana], Terry [Mason], all the guys that work with them. They fully deserve that. That's something vital in football.

“We've been very, very consistent, so let's make sure that we're at the top end of both halves of the pitch in the same manner next season.”
