Pakistan Batter Tries Leaving The Ball But Gets Dismissed In Bizarre Fashion During World Cup | Watch

Fatima Sana's Pakistan were bowled out for 129 by Bangladesh in their ICC World Cup opener at R. Premadasa Stadium.

When Pakistan women captain Fatima Sana opted to bat first in her team’s ICC World Cup opener against Bangladesh in Colombo, she would’ve hoped for her batters to post a good total. “The pitch looks good for batting, hopefully we will play good cricket," she explained her decision after winning the toss at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Thursday afternoon.

By the 39th over, Sana must’ve been regretting the decision as she saw Pakistan being bundled out for 129 with none of her batters scoring more than Rameen Shamim’s 23.

During the course of Pakistan’s batting collapse, no. 10 Nashra Sandhu was dismissed in a bizarre fashion which just about summed up their innings.

Facing leg-spinner Shorna in the 35th over, Sandhu pulled out of her attempted jab at the last moment but ended up hitting her bat on the stumps, resulting in her being hit wicket on 1.

Akter Rocks Pakistan

Pakistan’s problems began in the first over itself when Marufa Akter struck twice to send their two batters back to the pavilion. Opener Omaima Sohail (0) and No. 3 Sidra Amin (0) registered a golden duck each. Shamim and Muneeba Ali (17) led a brief recovery, lifting the total to 44/2 from 2/2 before Nahida Akter struck to break the partnership.

Soon Pakistan were reeling at 67/5 when another attempt at recovery began, this time involving skipper Sana (22) and wicketkeeper-batter Aliya Riaz (13). However, their partnership lasted 19 runs before the collapse resumed.

For Bangladesh, Shorna took 3/5 from just 3.3 overs while Marufa and Nahida took two wickets each. Rabeya Khan, Nishita Akter, and Fahima Khatun took a wicket each.

Pakistan next face tournament co-host India at the same venue on Sunday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-India began their campaign with an impressive performance, getting the better of Sri Lanka in Guwahati earlier this week.
