Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has withdrawn from international duty with Portugal due to injury.

Dalot played the full game as United won 3-2 against Burnley in the Premier League last Saturday.

The full-back was set to represent Portugal in World Cup Qualifiers against Armenia and Hungary during the international break, but has withdrawn from the squad due to muscle discomfort.

The Portugese Football Federation said: "Full-back Nuno Tavares was called up to the National Senior squad this Thursday to replace Diogo Dalot.

"The international, who plays for Manchester United, complained of muscle discomfort and was released by the Health and Performance Unit. Nuno Tavares, 25, a Lazio player, joins the national team in Yerevan, travelling this Thursday from Rome to the capital of Armenia.

"Portugal begins the qualifying phase for the 2026 World Cup on Saturday, facing Armenia and Hungary on the 9th, in Budapest."

Dalot has built an exemplary injury record at Old Trafford and is rarely unavailable for selection.

The full-back started in 31 Premier League games last term. He did not play against Southampton in January due to suspension and was absent for a handful of matches at the end of the campaign due to a calf injury.

Dalot started 35 games from a possible 38 in the Premier League in 2023/2024 and managed to avoid injury throughout the season, only being unavailable once through suspension.

Ruben Amorim will provide a squad injury update when he speaks to the media ahead of the Manchester derby next week. Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount were both forced off against Burnley with injuries.

Cunha appeared to sustain a hamstring problem, while Mount's issue seemed to be muscle-related.
