Alexis Mac Allister says even Liverpool squad "got tired" of Alexander Isak saga

Alexis Mac Allister has conceded that even the Liverpool squad grew a ‘little tired’ of the Alexander Isak transfer saga as it dragged on endlessly until deadline day.

Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak was the headline transfer saga of the summer, with Newcastle‘s public stance that the striker was not for sale prolonging any chance of striking a deal.

The Swede went on strike, was isolated from the squad and released a statement saying trust had been lost, and it was only on deadline day that he finally became a Liverpool player for £125 million.

For many supporters, it was a tiresome pursuit played out in the media, and Mac Allister has admitted that even Liverpool’s squad grew tired of how long it was being dragged out – though he said it with a wry smile!

And that is not to say they are not happy to have Isak on their team, far from it.

“At the beginning, it was a big thing, maybe, and after we got a little bit tired of it because it was too long!” Mac Allister told TNT Sports when asked about the response from the dressing room.

“But we all know the player he is, and I think he’s going to be really, really important, and we are happy to have him here.

“Maybe the other club is not happy, but that’s the way football works and, in the end, they paid quite a lot of money, so I think it’s good for both clubs.

“It’s good for him because at the end it’s what he wanted and we are so happy to have him because we know the player he is, and we suffered [because of] him a couple of times as well!”

It goes to show that the players are not as unaffected as they sometimes make out to be, and where Isak was concerned, it was almost impossible to avoid the daily updates, or in some cases non-updates.

The Swede made his debut against Atletico, his first start since May, and showed promising early signs of forming a connection with Florian Wirtz during his 58-minute appearance.
