"I'll bring it to the pitch"

Liverpool summer signing Florian Wirtz has reacted to advice from Jurgen Klopp, insisting he doesn’t need time to adjust to life at Anfield.

Sky Germany have an interview with the Liverpool star today, in which he appears to dismiss the advice from the former Reds manager.

Wirtz has had a slow start to life at Liverpool this summer following his €125m move from Bayer Leverkusen at the beginning of July.

The 22-year-old arrived at Liverpool with a reputation as one of the rising stars of European football after managing 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 games for Leverkusen.

Liverpool fought hard to get him, beating both Manchester City and Bayern Munich to his signature and paying a club record fee at the time to do so.

He’s had a slow start to life under Arne Slot, though, with no goals and just one assists in his first seven games so far this season raising questions about his suitability to the Premier League.

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also entered the debate, offering three pieces of advice to his compatriot urging him to stay cool and take his time while also telling fans to give him time to adapt. Wirtz, though, is seemingly uninterested in any of that.

“Yes, of course I would have liked to have scored a goal or collected a few points,” he said.

“But no matter what anyone says, I’m staying cool. I know what I’m capable of and I also know that I’ll really bring it onto the pitch at some point, so I’m just staying cool. That’s a good reminder.

“I don’t want to hear it all the time, “give him time, give him time.” Instead, I just try to do better each time than before.

“And sometimes there are just phases where things might not go your way; I haven’t had that very often in my career. Once I’ve gotten through it – that’s perhaps harsh, because I’m not playing badly, I just haven’t got the scoring points yet – it will come at some point, and then everything will be fine.

“It’s no secret that I’d like to have more so far, but I’m patient, and as I just said, I know full well that I can play good football. Sooner or later, I’m sure that things will return to normal.”
