Italian media react to ‘unforgettable’ Rasmus Hojlund performance for Napoli, ‘Real striker…’

Rasmus Hojlund is loving life this season away from Manchester United, making himself right at home for Napoli, with a standout Champions League performance.

While Manchester United have no European football this season, loanee Rasmus Hojlund is flying the flag as he takes part in the Champions League with Napoli.

After joining the reigning Scudetto champions on loan, Hojlund scored for Napoli on his debut, but since then hasn’t had the best time, struggling with a lack of creativity.

However, the Dane scored a brace on Wednesday night at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, earning plenty of praise from the Italian press in the process.

Hojlund is enjoying playing under Antonio Conte, with the Danish international now boasting three goals in five games for the Italian manager.

This is after his best performance yet came on Wednesday against Sporting CP, where he looked like the second coming of Viktor Gyokeres against the Portuguese outfit.

Scoring two brilliant strikers’ goals, Hojlund made light work of the opposition, and he impressed the media in Italy.

Hojlund also got an 8/10 from journalist Toni Lavarone on his blog, as he wrote: “Beyond the double of a real striker, he puts an incalculable amount of balls in the safe, with which he allows his team to go up. In Manchester, they will be eating their hands [words]. Again.”

In addition to this, Il Mattino said Hojlund has made himself the new “King” of the Maradona, with the supporters loving their new striker.

While the two goals he scored were really impressive, Hojlund owes a lot to his teammate Kevin de Bruyne, who assisted both goals, and he wasn’t shy about hyping up his teammate after the game.

Speaking to the media after the game, as quoted by Sport Media Set in Italy, Hojlund raved over De Bruyne.

“We have three more points, and we have to continue like this. If I thanked De Bruyne for the assist? Of course, I thanked him. Kevin is a legend of this sport; he has a lot of qualities. Every time he has the ball, I just have to find the space, and I know he will put the ball there. I’m really grateful to play with a player with this quality.”

Former United player and former Man City player starring together for Napoli is an odd sight; however, the move has given both a new lease on their careers.
