Christopher Nkunku is set to stay at Chelsea for the rest of the season, despite renewed interest from Manchester United, football.london understands.

Nkunku has struggled to work his way into Enzo Maresca's Premier League plans this season, with the Italian head coach preferring to use Nicolas Jackson up top. Nkunku has only started three Premier League matches, scoring twice.

He has, however, managed 11 goals in 10 games in cup competitions, proving his quality. That, and the fact they are on the lookout for another forward option, led to links with Manchester United in the January transfer window.

But with the window closing at 11pm on Monday night, time is running out to complete a deal. And it does not look like one is going to be done.

football.london understands United tabled a bid to sign the Frenchman on loan for the rest of the season on deadline day and that that offer was rejected by Chelsea.

Nkunku will now remain at Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season and fight for his place in the starting lineup in the Premier League. there are UEFA Conference League knockout matches to come - a tournament he has excelled in this season.

Chelsea will not want to take a hit on a talented player they spent £52million on in the summer of 2023. Prior to signing for the Blues he notched 23 goals and laid on nine assists in the 2022/23 season for RB Leipzig.

With Jackson having failed to score in his last seven Premier League matches, Maresca could look to make a change up front and give Nkunku the playing time he craves.
