R Ashwin to play for Team India once again, but there’s a twist!

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to represent Team India at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, marking his first appearance since calling time on his IPL career and departing from Chennai Super Kings. Ashwin expressed his excitement to participate in the fast-paced format, anticipating a challenging competition against quality players.

Hong Kong Cricket on Thursday confirmed that Ravichandran Ashwin will be part of Team India at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, set to be held from November 7 to 9. The veteran off-spinner will add experience and star power to the side in the quick-fire format. The tournament will also mark Ashwin’s first appearance since stepping away from the Indian Premier League last month, where he ended his journey with Chennai Super Kings, the franchise with which his career began.

In late August, Ashwin had said on his YouTube channel “Ash ki Baat” that coaching could be the next chapter of his cricketing life. “I am a very impulsive person. When I believe in something strongly, I run after it. Now I am running after joy in the game,” he remarked while announcing his decision to move on from the IPL. Ashwin, speaking on the opportunity, expressed his enthusiasm to participate in the format. “We have all watched the HK Sixes as youngsters on Television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part of. This format requires a different strategy and will prove to be high octane which I am looking forward to play alongside my ex-teammates. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in the opposition teams, it will be a good challenge for us,” he said.
