Ange Postecoglou will always be an icon at Celtic.

Despite leaving Celtic for Spurs in 2022, the legacy Postecoglou left behind will never be forgotten by the Parkhead support.

Exciting, attacking football scared the living daylights out the opposition in the SPFL but if there was one thing Celtic supporters would have liked to have seen, it would have been Ange taking on Europe after winning the treble.

However, it wasn’t to be and after winning the Europa League with Spurs, the Premier League club’s owner Daniel Levy, still took the decision to sack the Celtic icon, much to the dismay of the footballing world.

And here, Levy explains to Gary Neville exactly why he took the decision to sack the man who delivered Tottenham their first-ever European trophy.

Spurs owner Daniel Levy explains why he sacked Celtic icon Ange Postecoglou

After creating history at Celtic, it took Postecoglou two seasons to make his own mark at Spurs by winning the Europa League.

But despite that, Levy still dispensed with Ange’s services and here, he tells why.

Levy said on The Overlap, “Ultimately, the decision sits with me, but it’s always a collective decision.

“We have a board of directors, but under the board, we have a group of technical staff, and they advise.

“We had to explain the decision to part ways with Ange. Ange just won us a trophy – a European trophy – highly significant and he’s always going to be in our history.

“However, we couldn’t lose sight of the fact that we finished 17th in the league, we lost 22 Premier League games, and it’s impossible for Tottenham to be in that position, and so we had to take the emotion out of it and we had to give some data points as to why we decided to do what we did.

“Whichever level you do it, no one likes telling somebody, ‘You’re losing your job’, but it is the nature of football.

“We’re there to win and yes, we won a European trophy – and it was fantastic – but we also need to win on all fronts – and the Premier League says it all.”

What is Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou doing now?

As it stands right now, Postecoglou is still on a well-earned break since leaving Tottenham this summer.

Al-Ahli were linked with a move for Postecoglou just over a month ago but, as yet, nothing materialised from that speculation.

Whether the 59-year-old wants back into football remains a mystery, but one thing is for sure.

Postecoglou will always have a special place in the Celtic supporters’ hearts for how he wrestled control of Scottish football back from a brief spell at Rangers.
