As expected for a tournament played in Mexico straight after Wimbledon, the field at the ATP Los Cabos wasn’t necessarily stacked with the biggest names in the sport. But that has made for an entertaining week so far in Baja California with some surprise quarterfinalists. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all four quarterfinals – but who will secure their spot in the last four?ATP Los Cabos Quarterfinal PredictionsTristan Schoolkate vs Denis ShapovalovHead-to-head: first meetingAfter his title run in Dallas, it looked like Denis Shapovalov had finally turned the corner and could become a force on the tour again, but it proved to be a false dawn for the Canadian. Shapovalov has struggled since and will hope that his fortunes reached their nadir when he lost to Mariano Navone at Wimbledon. He should still be the favourite here, and did look sharp in dismissing Govind Nanda in his ATP Los Cabos opener, but Tristan Schoolkate will definitely have his chances.Prediction: Shapovalov in 3Embed from Getty ImagesJuan Pablo Ficovich vs Aleksandar KovacevicHead-to-head: Ficovich 1-1 KovacevicAleksandar Kovacevic came perilously close to winning a first ATP title in Montpellier earlier this year and he will surely now be looking at this week as another good opportunity to get over the line. On paper, he should have the edge over Juan Pablo Ficovich here, even if the latter played some very good tennis to get to this stage and should make this quite a close match, decided by fine margins. But Kovacevic has a slightly higher ceiling and should be the man to advance.Prediction: Kovacevic in 3Adam Walton vs James DuckworthHead-to-head: Duckworth 2-1 WaltonA matchup between two generations of Australian tennis. At the moment, it is Adam Walton who is steadily rising up the ranking and the way he beat Nishesh Basavareddy 6-1 6-0 to book his psot in the ATP Los Cabos quarterfinals was certainly extremely impressive. If he can maintain that sort of level up against James Duckworth, he should be expected to level the head-to-head with his older compatriot and stay in contention for the title here.Prediction: Walton in 3Embed from Getty ImagesAndrey Rublev vs Emilio NavaHead-to-head: first meetingAfter a decent performance at Wimbledon, Andrey Rublev is back to the top 10 and looking to win another tournament here in Los Cabos. While he has continued to struggle against the very best at the Slams, in best of three events he has been one of the top players, consistently winning titles for a long time and given the field here he is a clear favourite to hoist the trophy at the end of the week. Emilio Nava’s chances can’t be entirely discounted, but anything other than a Rublev win would be a significant surprise.Prediction: Rublev in 2Main photo credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images
