The Indian women’s tennis team will start its Billie Jean King Cup 2025 play-offs campaign at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.

India, 27th in the Billie Jean King Cup rankings, are placed in Group G alongside the world No. 14 Netherlands and 19th-ranked Slovenia in the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 play-offs.

The three teams will face each other in round-robin matches with the group winners advancing to the 2026 qualifiers. The other two teams will drop back into their respective 2026 Regional Group I events for the next season.

India have never progressed to the Qualifiers of the Billie Jean King Cup.

The Netherlands and Slovenia will play the opening tie of the group on Friday. The Netherlands will be led by world No. 87 Suzan Lamens while Slovenia have former French Open semifinalist Tamara Zidansek in their squad.

India's first clash will be against Slovenia on Saturday, followed by the tie against the Netherlands on Sunday.

World No. 309 Sahaja Yamalapalli, India’s top-ranked tennis player for the ties, will lead the team in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, she got the better of 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens in a WTA 125 event in Mexico.

She also reached the quarter-finals at the Chennai Open WTA 250 event last month.

Asian Games 2018 bronze medallist Ankita Raina, currently 482nd in the WTA Rankings for singles, is also in the squad.

Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (rank 381), Riya Bhatia (rank 468) and doubles specialist Prarthana Thombare are the other members of the team.

The Indian tennis team sealed its berth after finishing second at the Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia-Oceania Group 1 in April. India previously reached the Play-offs in 2021, when they lost 3-1 away to Latvia.

The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Fed Cup, is one of the most prestigious international tennis events for women, which brings together top-ranked players from different countries to compete in a team format.

The tournament is the women’s equivalent of the men's-only Davis Cup. This will be the second time that India will feature in the Billie Jean King Cup play-offs.

The last time India competed in the playoffs of the tournament was in 2021, when a 3-1 defeat to Latvia ended their hopes of reaching the competition’s qualifiers and playing for a place at the Billie Jean King Cup finals.

India finished third in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group I, which was played in the People’s Republic of China last year.
