Spain boss Luis de la Fuente speaks out after Barcelona stars Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres drop out of squad

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente says he doesn’t understand what the fuss is all about when players pick up injuries on interntional duty.

Barcelona have seen Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres pick up problems with Spain in recent call-ups but De la Fuente says it’s just part of the game.

“We’ve been at the highest level for a long time, and there are specific circumstances that force us to act responsibly. We prioritize the players’ health,” he told a press conference.

“I don’t know why they go overboard when they come to the national team and get injured. That’s just football. But it shows once again that the most important thing is the player’s health.”

Torres was the last Barca player to withdraw from the squad but has been diagnosed with an overload, not an injury, and the Spain boss agreed he needed to rest.

”There’s no injury, but tomorrow we need everyone at 100 percent, and Ferran wasn’t in the best condition. It’s been decided that he’ll rest,” he added.

Spain are back in action on Tuesday in World Cup qualifying, with Pedri and Pau Cubarsi likely to be involved in the game in Valladolid.
