Princess Kate’s endearing Wimbledon memory still delights fans

The Princess of Wales has shared a rare and humorous glimpse into her family life, recalling an awkward and slightly embarrassing moment at Wimbledon involving her father, Michael Middleton.

Speaking in the 2017 BBC documentary Our Wimbledon, the royal, now 43, opened up about the family’s deep rooted love for tennis and one particularly cringeworthy exchange that left her “mortified.”

As the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Kate is a familiar face at the iconic tournament, often attending with her husband Prince William, and occasionally bringing along their two eldest children, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

Her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, have also accompanied her in the prestigious Royal Box.

Reflecting on her early Wimbledon memories during the documentary, Kate recalled a moment when her dad mistook tennis star Tim Henman for another legend of the court.

"My father is not going to appreciate this," Kate began, laughing.

"We were walking past Tim Henman and had just seen Pete Sampras play. My dad said very coolly, Hi Pete. I was mortified!"

As Wimbledon prepares to kick off on Monday and run through 13 July, excitement is building around the royal family's possible appearances.

While Princess Kate’s schedule remains unconfirmed, she is expected to attend — health permitting in her role as royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
