Mikel Arteta was full of praise for one Manchester City player after Arsenal drew 1-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Several City stars impressed on Sunday, with Jeremy Doku shining against Arsenal among others.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was imperious in between the sticks as he made plenty of saves to keep the visitors in the game for much of the contest.

Pep Guardiola set up defensively against Arsenal, going as far as to deploy a 5-4-1 formation in the second half.

Mikel Arteta praises Gianluigi Donnarumma after Arsenal vs Man City

Ahead of the clash, Mikel Arteta would have been expected to lead Arsenal to a victory against Manchester City considering Pep Guardiola’s side had already lost two out of their first four Premier League games.

However, Declan Rice admitted Manchester City’s tactics were surprising, which suggests Guardiola took the hosts by a surprise.

One man who seemed to understand the Manchester City boss’ setup against Arsenal to a tee was Donnarumma, with Mikel Arteta saying via Beanyman Sports: “He’s so dominant in the box, every ball that is in and around the six-yard box, his timing, the way he executes the box is super efficient.”

“It’s very difficult and today, he made some very important contributions not to lose the game.”

Donnarumma stats during Arsenal vs Man City

As Mikel Arteta claimed, Donnarumma especially dominated inside the box which nullified Arsenal’s threat from set-pieces against Manchester City.

The stats sum up how well the Italian fared, with Manchester City’s £30 million fee to sign Donnarumma looking like a bargain.

The 26-year-old made two saves, four punches, five clearances and completed 14 out of his 28 passes as City prioritised playing long-ball football.

The only question City fans will be asking is whether Donnarumma should have done a better job for Gabriel Martinelli’s equaliser as he was caught in no man’s land before the Brazilian dinked the ball over him.
