Enzo Maresca press conference: Chelsea boss on Palmer injury, Brighton test, Sanchez return

Cole Palmer update

Enzo Maresca has confirmed Cole Palmer will be out of action for the next few weeks as the Chelsea star recovers from a groin injury.

Maresca also confirmed centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has picked up a fresh injury and will be out of action until the October international break

Rotating players

We try always to rotate players. That has to be the main target this season because of the amount of games, the amount of injuries. Sometimes you are not able to rotate because you don't have the right numbers.

Centre-back situation

I already showed trust and confidence with Josh Acheampong last season. When we played Josh away at Palace and at home versus Bournemouth, the reason why was not because we had any central defenders. We trust Josh. He was ill this week but had a session yesterday with us. Part of my job is to find solutions when we have some problems in terms of numbers.

Fernandez fatigue?

Enzo can play in different positions for us. He can play as a No.6, an attacking midfielder. We use him for 90% of our games as an attacking midfielder. He's very good in that position. The reason why he can have some good and bad moments is probably because of the amount of games. It's impossible to think you can play 64 games - that we played last season - at the same level. But we're happy with Enzo. It depends a little bit about what we think for the game-plan. He is an important player for us and we try to use him as much as we can.

Goalkeeper situation

I think Robert for a long time was very good with us. The last part of last season, the beginning of this season, he was fantastic. He made a mistake and recognised that. We are happy with Robert and happy with Filip, both of them. Not any problem with Robert.

More injury news

We have Tosin injured and will probably be out until international break. He has a small problem in his calf. Wes Fofana had concussion against Lincoln, and the rest are okay. Romeo and Benoit are better. We will see if they can join us tomorrow.

Palmer injury latest

We decided to protect a little bit Cole in terms of his injuries not getting worse. We decided to rest him for the next two or three weeks before the international break to see if he can recover 100% and be fully fit from the international break.
