Liverpool Must Sell Diaz, Can Upgrade With 'One of Best Wingers in the World'

In what was Arne Slot’s debut season in English football, the Dutchman’s Liverpool side stormed their way to the club’s second-ever Premier League title, winning the silverware with four games to spare in a season during which the Reds never looked likely to relinquish top spot in the table.

Since lifting the trophy, Liverpool have wasted little time in strengthening their team for their title defence. The club have not only signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, but have added Bayer Leverkusen duo Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong as a trio of truly sensational recruits.

For these incomings, however, there have too been rumblings over potential departures, none more so than Luis Diaz, who has been linked with an exit in recent weeks. The Colombian has been an integral part of the Liverpool squad since moving to Merseyside in 2022.

Should Diaz depart Anfield this summer, then the Reds would certainly need to replace him. According to The Sun, they have been linked with a wide player that could prove to be a perfect replacement.

Barcola To Liverpool?

The Sun have reported that Liverpool are targeting a move for Bradley Barcola, who has played a key role in helping Paris Saint-Germain become the dominant force they now are under Luis Enrique. The winger featured in the Champions League final last season, having been with PSG since 2023.

It can be easy to forget that Barcola, who has been called "one of the best players in the world," is just 22 years old, such is the French international’s quality. For all of his ability, however, it is unclear whether Barcola has a long-term future in Paris as a starter, given PSG boast a front line of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue.

Barcola would certainly be a starter for Liverpool were the Reds to sign him, a player that would only bolster their attacking capabilities as they look to not only defend their Premier League title, but win further honours in doing so. A player who is years younger than Diaz, Barcola could feasibly be a fixture of the Liverpool attack for seasons to come.
