Liverpool and Arsenal's next five away fixtures shapes concerning title picture

Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League is down to four points after what has not been the ideal start to 2025.

Having ended 2024 in style with wins over Tottenham, Leicester and West Ham, the Reds are yet to pick up a league win since the turn of the year, having drawn with Manchester United and Nottingham Forest. That has enabled Arsenal to narrow the gap, with Mikel Arteta’s side picking up a crucial derby day win over Tottenham last night.

The next few weeks could be crucial now for both sides, with Arne Slot looking to get Liverpool back to winning ways as they try to increase their advantage again. Arsenal though does have fewer games to contend with now after being knocked out of the FA Cup, which could give the Gunners a boost as they chase down the Reds.

What’s more, Liverpool has a much tougher set of away fixtures coming up than its rival, which could play a decisive factor. Liverpool.com has taken a look at what both sides have coming up next on the road in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool's next 5 away games

January 18: Brentford

February 1: Bournemouth

February 12: Everton

February 23: Man City

March 15: Aston Villa

That is certainly not an easy run for Liverpool. Starting this weekend at Brentford, the Bees are always capable of matching the biggest side on their day, and are coming off the back of rescuing a late point against Manchester City this week.

Bournemouth has become something of a graveyard for the Premier League's big guns this season, with Arsenal and City both having lost at the Vitality Stadium already, and the Cherries have got European football in their sights for next season.

Then it's the rescheduled Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. With David Moyes now at the helm, and the potential for Everton to make some signings before the end of the January transfer window, that is now a much different prospect than it would have been back in December.

City away needs no explaining, even with Pep Guardiola's side not looking like the winning machine of recent years, and Aston Villa will no doubt still be holding out hope of qualifying for the Champions League again. Slot and his players have their work cut out for them on the road.

Arsenal's next 5 away games

January 25: Wolves

February 15: Leicester

February 25: Nottingham Forest

March 8: Manchester United

April 5: Everton

On the face of it, Arsenal has a much easier run away from home, certainly at least over their next couple of journeys. Wolves did enjoy a bit of a bounce after Vitor Pereira's appointment as manager, although that looks as though it might have ended now, especially after a 3-0 defeat to Newcastle this week.

Ruud van Nistelrooy's appointment at Leicester, meanwhile, doesn't seem to have had the desired effect at all, with the Foxes now sitting second from bottom after losing each of their last six games, and only Wolves has a worse defense this season.

Things do get tougher thereafter, and Liverpool will be hoping Forest can do them a favor next month - even if it means strengthening a potential title challenge from Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

Manchester United has picked up slightly recently under Ruben Amorim, although an implosion never looks too far away at Old Trafford, while we'll know just how much danger Everton is in by the time the Gunners make their last visit to Goodison Park in April.

Given both Liverpool and Arsenal will be expected to keep up a strong record at home, the title could well come down to who performs best on the road. The Reds are yet to taste defeat away from home in the league, and they may have to keep that form going as the business end of the campaign approaches.
