Colorado has announced it will retire the jerseys of recent football standouts Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. It will do so during the team’s spring game on April 19.That means the No. 2 jersey (Sanders) and No. 12 jersey (Hunter) will officially be honored by the program. Colorado’s spring game is set for Saturday, April 19.The Buffaloes are coming off a special turnaround, one that Sanders and Hunter played a large part in helping execute. After going just 1-11 in 2022, Colorado got an infusion of new energy when Deion Sanders took the head coaching job.He helped bring in new talent, like Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. And they, in turn, helped turn things around. Colorado went 4-8 in 2023, then went 9-4 last season. The Buffaloes were even on the verge of a Big 12 Championship Game appearance, missing out on the shot to vie for the conference title due to league tiebreaker rules. But it was a remarkable run.Shedeur Sanders helped engineer the turnaround on offense, with help from Travis Hunter. Sanders threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, against 10 interceptions. He also ran for four scores. His passing ability helped open things up for Colorado. Sanders showed an uncanny ability to make plays when things broke down.On the flip side, Travis Hunter was his favorite target at receiver. Hunter recorded 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns during the 2024 season. He also doubled as a standout cornerback, ultimately winning the Heisman Trophy based on what he showed as a two-way star. Hunter recorded 23 tackles, 1.0 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, three interceptions and 11 passes defended in 2024.Now both will be immortalized in Colorado football lore. As Colorado wrote with the announcement: “No. 2 & No. 12 — Officially Untouchable.”
