He had a pretty good workout in the first round, so hugely disappointing that Jack has had to pull out.”Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty ImagesRobson agreed with Henman’s assessment, arguing the 23-year-old seemed ‘positive’ earlier in the day.“He was on site this morning, having a practice. We saw him earlier, and it seemed quite positive,” she said.“But I think the practice today, you just know whether it’s going to last a best-of-five or not, it was just too soon.“He’s officially released a statement saying it was the arm that just didn’t hold up after the first round match.”In a statement posted to social media, Draper explained why he decided to withdraw from the 2025 US Open.“Hi guys, I’m sorry to say I’ll be withdrawing from the US Open,” he said.“I tried my very best to be here and give myself every chance to play, but the discomfort in my arm has become too much, and I have to do what is right and look after myself.“Thank you for all the support.”Henman believes Draper has done the right thing, as he praised the Brit and his team for making the ‘mature’ decision.Photo by Jean Catuffe/Getty Images“It’s hugely disappointing, but that’s where Jack and the team around him have made the wise and mature decision not to aggravate things even more,” he said.“That’s where [it’s important] to have those wise heads around you, James Trotman has been around a long time, Shane [Annun], his physio, worked with Andy Murray for a long time, so they would have been able to reflect on the practice session today, and say [if we play] ‘we’re asking for trouble’.”Withdrawing from the tournament where he reached the semifinals in 2024, Draper is unfortunately now set to fall down the rankings…Where will Jack Draper be ranked after the US Open?Failing to defend his points from 2024, Draper will drop to seventh (at best) in the ATP rankingsRank Name Age Nationality Move Points 1 Carlos Alcaraz 22 Spanish +1 9,590 2 Jannik Sinner 24 Italian -1 9,530 3 Alexander Zverev 28 German – 5,880 4 Taylor Fritz 27 American – 4,325 5 Ben Shelton 22 American +1 4,230 6 Novak Djokovic 38 Serbian +1 4,130 7 Jack Draper 23 British -2 3,690 8 Karen Khachanov 29 Russian +1 3,280 9 Alex de Minaur 26 Australian -1 3,195 10 Lorenzo Musetti 23 Italian – 3,155 Top ten in the Live ATP RankingsHis latest injury setback could also hurt his chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin, as Draper is in danger of falling outside the qualification spots by the end of the US Open. The Brit has yet to appear at the year-end finals, but looked in great shape to do so before his injury at Wimbledon.Originally scheduled to appear at the Chengdu Open and Tokyo Open in Asia after the US Open, it’s now unclear where we will next see Draper compete on the ATP Tour.
