After jumping out to a two-set lead over top-seeded American Taylor Fritz in Tuesday’s quarterfinal matchup at the US Open, Novak Djokovic began to grow frustrated with the crowd noise inside Arthur Ashe Stadium.

While fending off a break during the fourth game of the third set, Djokovic asked the chair umpire what he was going to do about the crowd noise while he was preparing to serve.

The two wound up in an exchange caught on camera, while spectators in Flushing Meadows booed.

The Tennis Letter shared the footage via social media:

The moment seemed to ignite the crowd, with Fritz seizing momentum and capturing the third set in dominant fashion.

The set was the first Fritz had won against Djokovic since their 2024 Australian Open quarterfinal clash, where the American was able to capture the second set before ultimately losing in four.

Djokovic on the other hand, who entered the tournament as the defending champion, went on to lose to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.

Djokovic Edges Out Hard-Fought Fourth Set, Faces Alcaraz in SF

After dropping the third set on Tuesday, Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz went blow-for-blow throughout much of the fourth until the 24-time Grand Slam champ was able to break the top-seeded American to secure the match.

With Fritz serving at 5-4, Djokovic threatened to break for the match early, however Fritz was able to fight his way back into the game despite a series of first-serve faults.

While clawing his way back from the brink of defeat, Fritz managed to save two match points, however, he double-faulted the match away, with Djokovic ultimately securing the set, 6-4.

Now, the all-time great collides with world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals, whom he has defeated in back-to-back meetings at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and in the 2025 Australian Open quarterfinals.

To date, Djokovic is also notably 3-0 against Alcaraz on hard courts, setting the stage for what’s sure to be an interesting match on Friday.

As he explained during his on-court interview moments later, his daughter Tara, who celebrated her birthday today, taught him the dance.

“It’s my daughter’s birthday so this is a big present for her. … She taught me how to dance. It’s a K Pop Demon Hunters. Soda Pop is the name of the song. Obviously it’s a big thing globally for teenagers and for kids but I didn’t know about it before my daughter told me a few months ago about it.

“So we’re at home doing different choreographies and this is one of them. So hopefully I’ll make her smile when she wakes up tomorrow morning.”
