Northern Superchargers win The Hundred 2025 final at Lord’s against Southern Brave

The Northern Superchargers lifted The Hundred women’s title at Lord’s, toppling favourites Southern Brave in front of a record-breaking crowd, sealing victory by seven wickets with 12 balls to spare.

Match Analysis

Brave, who had dominated the group stages with eight straight wins, arrived at the Home of Cricket as the overwhelming favourites. But on the biggest stage of all, they faltered. Put into bat, Brave could only manage 115-6 from their 100 balls, a total that always looked short against a Superchargers side brimming with confidence and resilience.

The chase was anchored by Australian pair Annabel Sutherland and Nicola Carey, who shared a commanding unbeaten 60-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Sutherland (28*) applied the finishing touch in emphatic style, launching the winning six over long-on to spark jubilant celebrations in front of the 22,542 spectators. Carey, who struck 35* and was later named Meerkat Match Hero, provided the calm assurance required in a final, guiding her side home with composure.

It was Carey’s all-round contribution – with both bat and ball – that epitomised the Superchargers’ campaign. Alongside her fellow bowlers, she had been central to their progression through the tournament and once again played a decisive role on the day that mattered most.

Earlier, captain Kate Cross set the tone with the ball after winning the toss. The England seamer struck twice in two deliveries, removing Maia Bouchier and the dangerous Laura Wolvaardt to leave Brave rattled in the powerplay. Although Sophie Devine and teenager Freya Kemp attempted to steady the innings, the scoreboard pressure never relented.

The Superchargers’ reply began with a steadying stand between Alice Davidson-Richards and 16-year-old Davina Perrin – fresh from her Eliminator heroics. The pair put on 28 for the opening wicket, ensuring the nerves of a final were quickly settled. From there, the Superchargers’ middle order ensured the chase was never in doubt, pacing their innings with maturity that belied the occasion.

Runs on the board in a final often prove decisive, but this time the Brave’s total was brushed aside with ruthless efficiency. The Superchargers may have finished second in the group standings, but at Lord’s they looked every inch the most complete and worthy side in the competition.

The historic occasion was played out in front of a bumper Lord’s crowd of 22,542, taking the overall women’s attendance in The Hundred 2025 to 349,401 – a new global benchmark for women’s cricket tournaments.

For Superchargers batter Phoebe Litchfield, who topped the tournament run charts and was named MVP, the triumph marked a personal and collective milestone:

“I think if you told me a month ago that we'd be lifting the trophy and I’d have this in my hands, I probably wouldn't have believed you,” Litchfield reflected. “So it's been an awesome month and credit to the girls and the way we played.”

She was quick to highlight the match-winning impact of her team’s attack:

“I think, to be honest, our bowlers have won us this tournament. We've had a lot of chases where we haven't needed to go ballistic. The way our batters have played have won us the games, but I think our bowlers have really won the games for us by bowling really good lengths and lines.”

For the 21-year-old Australian, the experience of playing in The Hundred was one to savour:

“I just think the experience as an Aussie coming over to The Hundred, it's just so much fun. I think part of it is the way The Hundred is, but also this team. The Northern Superchargers are my favourite team to play for, and it's just been a blast,” she said.

Reflecting on the significance of winning at Lord’s, she added:

“It's pinch-me stuff. I remember coming here to Lord’s as a 10-year-old watching a women's game and to think that I'm on this side of the field and watching with a packed crowd, it's pretty epic.”

With records broken, reputations enhanced, and the trophy secured, the Northern Superchargers carved their name into The Hundred history books – not just as champions, but as a side that rose to the occasion when it mattered most.
