Asia Cup: Suryakumar Yadav, Haris Rauf fined; Sahibzada Farhan warned; PCB, BCCI could appeal

Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf each received a 30% match fee fine from the ICC for their on-field conduct during the Asia Cup India vs Pakistan matches. NEW DELHI: After hearings from both sides were completed, both Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf have been recommended 30% fines of their match fees for their on-field behaviour and conduct during the India vs Pakistan matches which have happened in the ongoing Asia Cup. Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan escaped the fine and was let go with just a warning for his celebrations after scoring a half-century last week. Both boards are expected to appeal the match referee’s recommendations, as Haris Rauf, Sahibzada Farhan, and Suryakumar Yadav have all pleaded not guilty. It is understood that the International Cricket Council (ICC) conducted disciplinary hearings on Thursday and Friday with match referees overseeing proceedings. From both parties, team managers also attended the meetings. The tension from both sides refuses to die down in the multi-nation tournament and it all started when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accused match referee Andy Pycroft for violating the code of conduct at the toss.

Multiple emails later, the global body was convinced that Pycroft did no wrong and gave him a clean chit. The PCB responded with another email and this time it was about India captain Suryakumar Yadav's post-match comments. The email was sent on September 17 and while the ICC was looking into the matter, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote an email demanding action against Rauf and Farhan for their on-field antics. After a thorough investigation, Rauf’s actions in the stands, including gestures mocking Indian fans about falling planes, were deemed “aggressive and unacceptable,” prompting the 30 per cent fine. Farhan, who had celebrated his fifty with an open-air gunshot gesture, was issued only a warning, with no financial repercussions. As far as Surya is concerned, he was fined for expressing solidarity with the Pahalgam terror victims and Indian Army when the two first met in the tournament on September 14. It now remains to be seen whether these recommendations are followed when the final statement is issued by the ICC. The two teams will now again take field in the big final on Sunday and with so much happening in the last few weeks, the title clash is expected to be a very tense game of cricket.
