Essendon has informed Oskar Smartt he won’t be offered a contract for the 2026 season.Taken at pick No.17 in this year’s Mid-Season Rookie Draft after an exciting two-year stint in Essendon’s VFL program as a small forward, Smartt featured in four AFL games for the Club in the back end of this season.Making his first appearance against Richmond, Smartt’s debut was a feel-good story from the Dons’ campaign both from the AFL and VFL perspectives of their football program.The Bombers thank Smartt for his contributions to the Club since coming aboard the list.“Oskar’s AFL opportunity was well deserved thanks to his perseverance over the last few years within our VFL program,” Essendon’s GM – AFL Daniel McPherson said.“Oskar’s a popular character across both our AFL and VFL programs and has made a positive impact in his short time at our club – we wish him all the best for his footy future.”
