All Man Utd players told they must pull off same 'massive thing' under Ruben Amorim, Mason Mount says 'that's the focus'

Manchester United star Mason Mount has insisted that the Red Devils know one major “difficult” task that they face amid Ruben Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford.

The verdict is still out on Mason Mount’s playing spell at Manchester United after another underwhelming campaign for the 26-year-old midfielder at Old Trafford.

Mount’s second season at the Premier League club was again disrupted by injuries, with the former Chelsea ace playing in only 26 matches in the 2024-25 campaign.

The England international netted three times across all competitions last season and Mount did not pick up a single assist for the Red Devils amid his injury-hit campaign.

Mount arrived at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag’s reign as United manager, with the Red Devils agreeing an initial fee of £55m to sign him from Chelsea in 2023.

Despite his injuries and lack of consistency, the current United No 7 shirt holder is still part of Ruben Amorim’s plans and the Red Devils boss is a big fan of him.

Mason Mount makes his position clear on the important objective for Man Utd players under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

Mason Mount has been part of the Red Devils’ pre-season tour and the Three Lions star featured for Manchester United in the draw against Leeds United last week.

Ruben Amorim brought the ex-Chelsea star off the bench at half-time and Mount replaced summer signing Matheus Cunha in United’s 0-0 draw against Leeds United.

Mount was named in the United travelling squad to the United States for the next leg of the pre-season tour and is expected to feature again under Amorim this summer.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, the Erik ten Hag signing admitted that a key objective for United is securing a return back to European football for the 2026-27 campaign.

“We obviously want to be back in Europe,” Mount said.

“I think that is a massive, massive thing for the club.

“I think that’s the focus. The Champions League would be amazing for us and, as a group, we want to be playing in that competition.”

United will head into the 2025-26 Premier League season without any European football after the Red Devils’ disappointing 15th-place finish last season.

The Red Devils had the chance to secure a route back to the Champions League last season after United reached the 2025 Europa League final under Amorim.

However, United’s Europa League final encounter with Tottenham ended in heartbreak for Mount and Co, with Spurs picking up a 1-0 win in Bilbao in May.

Mount has now said that United face no easy task in climbing back into European football through the Premier League due to the different teams fighting for a place.

“We know how difficult that is now in the Premier League,” he continued.

“There are so many teams that are obviously investing and playing very good football at the moment.

“And as I’ve said many times, it’s the small details here and there that really affect that at the top of the league.”

United are back in action on Sunday for the first match of their US leg of the pre-season tour, with the Red Devils facing fellow Premier League side West Ham.
