Alex de Minaur is not entirely pleased with the US Open after reaching the fourth round.

De Minaur won the Washington Open at the start of the North American hard court swing, and was a potential dark horse coming into the US Open.

Despite his positive results coming into the New York major, De Minaur was told the draw needed to open up for him at the US Open.

De Minaur has been happy with the balls at the US Open, but admitted he does not understand something else that the tournament has done relating to him.

Alex de Minaur claims US Open scheduling for him has been a ‘headscratcher’

De Minaur, who is the current world number eight, has reached the fourth round of the US Open for the fifth time in his career.

Despite being a top 10 player, De Minaur is yet to play a match on one of the top two courts at the US Open.

After beating Daniel Altmaier via retirement on Court 17, which is the fourth biggest court at the US Open, De Minaur was asked what he has thought about his scheduling.

While De Minaur told his press conference that he has nothing against playing on that court, he did admit he was a little surprised that he had not received bigger billing.

“It is a little bit of a headscratcher for me. Not going to lie,” said De Minaur. “I’ve got nothing against 17. I played some good matches on that court, but I kind of felt like maybe I could have played on a bigger court.

“But hey, the way I kind of look at these things when things kind of don’t play out the way I want them is just I’ve got to win more matches, right?

“If I win enough matches, I’m sure I’ll play on bigger courts. So it goes back down to the same kind of mentality is there’s no point really complaining about it.

“My best action forward is putting my head down, going out there competing, winning matches, if I keep on winning matches, I’m sure I’ll play on bigger courts.”

Will Alex de Minaur be placed on a bigger court for his next US Open match?

De Minaur’s wishes are now likely to be granted after reaching the second week of the US Open once again.

There will only be four men’s singles matches played on Monday, September 1, which will be split over the top two courts.

This means that De Minaur is all but confirmed to be on either of the Arthur Ashe Stadium or the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

With De Minaur playing qualifier and world number 435 Leandro Riedi in his next match, it appears likely that this match will be on the secondary Louis Armstrong Stadium.

However, with De Minaur’s draw now opening up, he is now the highest ranked player in his section and could be on course to reach the first Grand Slam semifinal of his career.
