Port Adelaide dismisses Warren Tredrea from board of directors

AFL legend Warren Tredrea has been dismissed from the board of the Port Adelaide Football Club following a review into content he shared on social media, the club has confirmed.

In June it launched a governance review, following a report from the ABC, amid concerns over online content on the former Port Adelaide captain's Instagram account.

In a statement, the club said it had given Tredrea the chance to apologise but he "refused to agree with the public apology request to close out the matter".

"After exhausting all reasonable avenues for resolution, the board determined that Mr Tredrea's continuation as a director was not in the best interests of the club," it said.

Earlier this year, the Jewish Council of Australia condemned one of Tredrea's Instagram posts in which one of his podcast guests AJ Roberts described Israel as a "fake state" that was behind the creation of terror group ISIS.

Roberts also said Zionists were responsible for "controlling World War II", and also claimed the 9/11 terrorist attacks were carried out by Mossad.

"The Jewish Council of Australia is deeply disturbed by the amplification of far-right antisemitic conspiracy theories in this Instagram post and podcast episode," executive officer Max Kaiser said in a statement at the time.

In response, Tredrea adamantly insisted he was not "in any way, shape, or form, an antisemite, and consider it defamatory for anyone to accuse me as such".

Following the Jewish Council's concerns, the Power initiated a formal governance review, and today said it had, as part of that process, formally requested Tredrea to agree to "apology to the club and anyone who took offence to the comments made on his podcast by Mr AJ Roberts".

It said that Tredrea rejected that request.

"The board has afforded Mr Tredrea numerous opportunities to reconsider his position, which he has not changed," the club said.
