Former Manchester United and England defender Gary Neville has received the ultimate endorsement for his skills as a right-back in his prolific playing career.

The 50-year-old former Manchester United captain’s stunning exploits at Old Trafford finally earned him a place in the Premier League Hall of Fame.

The Premier League made the announcement in October, with pundit Gary Neville receiving his medallion from none other than Red Devils legend Bryan Robson.

Bryan Robson presented his former Red Devils teammate with the honour at Old Trafford ahead of United’s 4-2 Premier League win over Brighton last month.

Neville is now part of the Hall of Fame alongside several former United teammates, including Eric Cantona, Sir David Beckham, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes.

The Sky Sports pundit was one of United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ success stories alongside his brother, Phil Neville, after their emergence at Old Trafford in the 1990s.

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website after Gary’s induction, Phil Neville claimed that his brother doesn’t realise how well he did in his prime run as a right-back.

“Gary is humble and self-deprecating, so he probably doesn’t realise there was a period of time when he was the best right-back in the world,” he said.

“He never talked himself up like that, he never promoted himself in any way, but he went to World Cups and European Championships, played Champions League football… he played at the highest, highest level.”

Phil, who is the head coach of MLS outfit Portland Timbers, believes that Gary was better than the likes of Brazil legend Cafu and former Barcelona star Dani Alves.

“People talk about Cafu and Dani Alves, but Gary was probably the greatest right-back at that time and was probably the greatest right-back that has ever played for Manchester United and England,” he added.

Phil Neville talks up his special connection with Gary Neville in their post-Man Utd playing careers

Gary rose through the ranks of the United youth academy and the former Red Devils defender spent his entire senior club playing career under Sir Alex Ferguson.

During his time at Old Trafford, the former England international lifted eight Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues, three FA Cups and three League Cups.

Speaking on his brotherly relationship with Gary, Phil Neville said: “That doesn’t change if I am on the other side of the world.

“The first message I receive after most games and before games is from him.”

The former United and Everton defender continued: “Because of our relationship, because he is my brother and best friend, only at moments like this, when he gets the recognition that he deserves, do you realise how special your best friend and brother is.

“What is nice is that he is now getting recognition outside the people who are closest to him.”

Gary’s career came to an end in 2011 after he retired as a player and has since become a leading pundit, but he suffered a disastrous managerial spell at Valencia.
