Wimbledon star Hubert Hurkacz was unable to continue

Wimbledon star Arthur Fils raced to the other side of the net to help Hubert Hurkacz after his opponent collapsed to the ground. The pair had just played an incredible point late in the fourth set when the incident occurred. Fils led the No.7 seed 7-6(2), 6-4, 2-6, 6-6 when they headed into a fourth-set tiebreak. Hurkacz played a cute dropshot after rushing to the net and Fils reacted quickly to get the ball back.

Hurkacz then dived to his right at full stretch and incredibly reached the ball, sending it back to Fils, who put it into the net. The Polish star remained sprawled on the turf as Fils walked around the net to try and help him to his feet. However, Hurkacz collapsed back to the ground and required lengthy physio treatment before he was taken to his courtside seat. The physio continued to work on the 27-year-old's knee before strapping it up.

Hurkacz had set point at 8-7 in the tiebreak but during the first point after the restart, he dived on his knee again. Hurkacz was unable to continue after that and the match was abandoned with Fils progressing to the third round. The 2021 Wimbledon semi-final was expected to have a deep run at this year's Championships but injury cut his run short in the second round.
