Kris Boyd faces stinging Celtic fan criticism of Kevin Muscat as Rangers hero forced into next boss fess up

Concerned Kris Boyd admits he can't guarantee Rangers next manager frontrunner Kevin Muscat is not a "poor man’s Ange Postecoglou".

Record Sport revealed that the Shanghai Port boss appears to be on the verge of winning the race to replace Russell Martin in the Ibrox hot seat.

The former Light Blues midfielder has entered into contract negotiations with the club’s American owners - with Neil McCann in the frame to step into the dugout on an interim basis until Muscat arrives from China.

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl impressed Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe during talks last week - but has now pulled out of the running.

With Muscat now appearing to be the last man standing, he has faced comparisons to former Celtic boss Postecoglou.

He replaced the Treble-winning Parkhead boss in the Melbourne Victory dugout in 2013 - before replacing Postecoglou at Yokohama F. Marinos in 2021.

Asked on Sky Sports about "Celtic fans saying, ‘he’s a poor man’s Ange Postecoglou", Rangers hero Boyd conceded: “That remains to be seen.

"Celtic had success with Ange Postecoglou when he arrived in Scottish football, and it’s a similar pathway.

"It doesn’t guarantee that Kevin Muscat is going to be a success at Rangers, if he is the man to get the job.

“The way that Ange Postecoglou managed Celtic. The way he was getting his team to play was exciting. The Celtic fans loved it. He carried that on, going into the English Premier League, starting with Tottenham Hotspur, and it has kind of fallen away since.

“Rangers fans are hoping, if it’s Muscat, he can have the same success that Ange Postecoglou did.”
