Holding the advantage in the last 10 played 6-4, Pepperdine last played Cal State, Fullerton in a three-game series in 2023, taking one in the three-game series. The last loss for the Waves in Fullerton was in 2018 with the most recent win on the road coming in a three-game sweep in 2022.Coming off a sweep at home to #8 Oregon State, Cal State, Fullerton is just one game below .500 at 17-18. Notable wins include a sweep against UC Riverside as well as taking a midweek from USC on March 11. With five guys batting above .300, Seniors Mattox Latta and Matthew Bardowell lead the charge offensively.The Waves are fresh off a heartbreaking 7-8 loss in 12 innings to the Portland Pilots Sunday afternoon. After a Friday loss, the Waves bounced back to take Saturday's game 5-2, before battling through three extra innings Sunday, eventually dropping the rubber match. The last time a game went to 12 innings was 2022 and the last time it happened against Portland was over a decade ago in 2009.: Identical to last season, Pepperdine is predicted to finish seventh in the West Coast Conference this year. He made his big league debut with the Oakland Athletics on 9/8/23 as a relieving pitcher against the Texas Rangers. Actively, Lucas has transitioned into a starter role with the Toronto Blue Jays and through two starts this season, has pitched 10.1 scoreless innings.In 2023, middle infielders Ryan Johnson and John Peck were both selected in the MLB Draft. Peck was the Waves' highest drafted player since 2016, having been selected in the seventh round by the Detroit Tigers. Johnson was drafted in the eighth round by the Houston Astros. This is the first time since 2010 that Pepperdine had two picks in the first eight rounds. Left handed pitcher Shane Telfer also signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks on 7/17/23.Last season, Billy Cook premiered in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates, originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 10th round of the 2021 MLB Draft.Pepperdine won its only College World Series title in 1992 and also played in the 1979 CWS. The Waves made their 30th and most recent appearance in NCAA postseason play in 2015, advancing to the NCAA Fullerton Regional final.
