Dominic Calvert-Lewin backed to sign deal 'very soon' as Everton transfer wait continues

Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin's current contract at Everton expires at the end of this month

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been tipped to quit the Premier League as the striker moves towards the final fortnight of his current Everton contract. Since joining the Blues from his home city club Sheffield United for £1.5million in August 2016, the Yorkshireman has made 274 appearances and scored 71 goals, one fewer than Duncan Ferguson.

However, despite Everton announcing in a statement on Monday that they will “continue to liaise with representatives” of Calvert-Lewin and Michael Keane while offering new contracts to Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, with no agreement reached, Calvert-Lewin is understood to be heading towards the exit door. David Moyes, who was at Windsor Castle on Wednesday for the Investiture ceremony with William, the Prince of Wales, to receive his Officer of the Order of the British Empire awarded in the King’s New Year’s Honours List, said: “I think we’ll secure the ones that we really want to secure and make sure they’re here, and obviously we know we are going to have to bring in some new players, that’s obvious.”

Newcastle United are among the other Premier League clubs who are Calvert-Lewin’s potential suitors, but now former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has predicted the 28-year-old to move abroad. The 67-year-old, who now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “I do think a fit Calvert-Lewin would do very well.

“But there’s a lot of talk of overseas moves and I think Italy is a league in which he would do extremely well. I don’t think it would be too physically onerous for him, compared to the Premier League, Serie A would suit his style of play, as well.

“I expect him to go overseas on a free. It’s a loss for Everton, but that’s the way it goes.

“You either tie these players down or they decide there is a better option. I think he’ll be leaving very soon.”
