Legendary Chelsea team now in real danger of being completely forgotten despite amazing achievement

Chelsea have produced some of the best teams in Premier League history and have the silverware to prove it.

They have won a total of five Premier League titles after assembling some absolutely terrific squads.

However, the best Chelsea side ever is arguably Jose Mourinho’s 2004/05 team, who won the most prestigious trophy in English football that season while setting an incredible record.

It is a record that separates that title-winning side from all of the others that the Premier League has seen since its inception in 1992.

Chelsea once conceded just 15 goals in Premier League season

At the heart of Chelsea’s first title success in 50 years was an impenetrable defence being managed by Mourinho, who was at the peak of his powers at the time.

Under him, the Blues went on to concede just 15 goals in 38 games. It is a Premier League record and one that is yet to be broken.

Chelsea’s other title-winning sides have also been quality teams. For example, Antonio Conte’s men came first in the 2016/17 season with an impressive 93 points.

During that campaign, Chelsea also went on a 13-game winning streak, which was ended by London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who they played twice during that run.

However, other teams have finished with more points and gone on similar runs to that. In contrast, no one has come close to matching or breaking the Blues’ defensive record from 2005 since it was achieved, though that could be about to change.

Arsenal chasing down Chelsea record

To the present day, and one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals Arsenal could be about to surpass their famous record.

Nine games into this season, and Mikel Arteta’s side have only conceded three goals. Their defence has quality and depth, which has been clear to see during this early part of the campaign. If only Enzo Maresca had such options at Stamford Bridge.

They are probably not going to do it (hopefully not anyway), but if they do, Mourinho’s iconic team will be forgotten. What they achieved defensively is what has made them such a unique title-winning side.

Arsenal matching or breaking their record and recency bias will do that group of players no favours.
