Andre Onana: Turkish Media Cast Verdict on Man Utd Flop After First Two Trabzonspor Games

Andre Onana has already had an action-packed start to life as a Trabzonspor player as the Manchester United flop acclimatises to Super Lig football. Swapping Old Trafford for Papara Park on a temporary basis this term, the Cameroonian has made quite an impression after just two matches.

After slipping down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim at the Theatre of Dreams, the 29-year-old agreed to leave United in search of first-team football. Aiming to get his career back on track, Onana made his first start for Trabzonspor in a narrow 1-0 defeat against Fenerbahce.

Despite being on the losing side, the shot-stopper was praised for his efforts in the loss. He was impressive once again in his second appearance for the Turkish outfit. The supreme confidence the goalkeeper has in his ability with the ball at his feet shone through.

Andre Onana Enjoys Impressive Start in Turkey

Following his first outing for his new club, Turkish outlets were quick to heap praise on the enigmatic 'keeper. Milliyet even dubbed him 'the star of the match' before adding: "He played a fantastic game and his experience is so evident."

The praise didn't stop there, either, as the outlet Fanatik waxed lyrical about his ability to keep his team in the match despite having a man sent off. They wrote:

"Onana didn’t look out of place compared to his debut. After Okay [Yokuslu] was sent off and Trabzonspor were reduced to 10 men, Onana kept his team in the match with his saves. He cleared the ball off the post for En Nesyri’s goal and fought back as far as he could on his return.

"His performance was enough to make one forget his dark days at United."

Taka Gazete then added that his confidence - which appeared completely drained in England - looks to have returned: "The 29-year-old, who exuded confidence in goal, made several crucial saves throughout the match and stood in the way of the widening gap."

Onana's second game was a 1-1 draw against Gaziantep FK. He may have conceded yet another goal, but the ex-Man Utd shot-stopper did register an assist with a searching ball over the top to ex-Southampton striker Paul Onuachu.

Taka Gazete explained the brilliant contribution: "Trabzonspor's only goal was assisted by goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Cameroonian goalkeeper made a direct contribution to his team's goal by opening the attack with a long pass."
