Champions League club close to signing Paul Pogba as they face snub from current Man Utd player

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is closing in on a return to football after almost two years out of the game.

Manchester United may be in the market for a new midfielder this summer as Ruben Amorim retools his squad.

Reports suggest United may target a midfielder on loan, with key funds being utilised in other areas.

A box-to-box player may be targeted, as Amorim looks to add legs to his engine room this summer.

Amorim would surely love to have the talents of Paul Pogba in his prime, long before he departed United for Juventus in 2022.

The Frenchman divided opinion at times, but his natural ability was undeniable, and his presence in the game has been missed over the last two years.

Pogba was hit with a doping ban in 2023, though his four-year suspension was eventually reduced to 18 months on appeal.

The World Cup winner has been searching for a new club as he prepares to return to the pitch at the age of 32.

Pogba has played down the suggestion of rejoining United, and, in truth, that is probably for the best.

Reports earlier in June suggested that Pogba had been offered to Monaco as he plotted a move to French football.

Pogba excelled for France on the international stage, but has never actually played in Ligue 1, having departed Le Havre for United as a youngster.

That move to Monaco now appears to be moving closer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that ‘final details’ are now being sorted for Pogba’s move.

Romano claims that a two-year contract awaits Pogba, with the deal moving towards completion.

The move means Pogba will be back playing in the Champions League next season, after Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 this past season.

Monaco to sign Pogba amid Andre Onana chase

In Monaco’s ideal world, they would be signing Pogba alongside Manchester United’s Andre Onana.

Monaco want to sign Onana this summer as they push to sign a new goalkeeper.

The Guardian claim that Onana wants to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford, meaning a United exit doesn’t appear to be imminent.

Monaco also explored signing David De Gea, with the former United stopper rejuvenating his career in Italy with Fiorentina.

De Gea signed a new contract instead, leaving Monaco to turn to Onana – but that deal doesn’t appear to be in the pipeline either.

Monaco appear to have hit a brick wall on Onana, but will hope to have Pogba’s signature wrapped up in the coming days.
