EAST LANSING, Mich. – Hannah Smith took home the lone DePaul singles victory on Sunday, closing out the first tournament of the fall slate.With no doubles action taking place, singles began at 9 a.m. CT. Junior Roberta Sechi put up a fight in the first set against Michigan's Bayley Sheinin, but fell 5-7. Sheinin took control in set two, 6-0, to claim the match.Smith dropped set one 3-6, but dominated the second game, 6-0, to tie the match. In a thrilling tiebreaker, Smith defeated Marelie Raath (NU), 7-5.Helin Alvarez faced the Wolverine's Ava Bruno and claimed set one with a 7-6(2) score. The redshirt sophomore could not hold the early advantage, losing 1-6, 2-6 in the following two sets.Clara Nilsson battled Marielou Baudouin of Western Michigan in singles after squaring off in doubles on Saturday. Baudouin controlled the match, winning 6-3, 6-2 for the straight-set victory.In the Flight C final, freshman Yasemin Pehlivan competed against Laura Maser (UM). Pehlivan jumped out to an early lead with a 6-3 set one win. Maser countered with a 6-1 triumph, forcing a winner-take-all tiebreaker.
