Rohit, Kohli take centrestage

India secures the consolation win, thanks to some old-school ODI batting from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. It wasn’t a challenging target. Nevertheless, the Indian batting royalty stuck to the task and chipped away with ease. A lot of records fell on the way, Rohit got to his hundred and Kohli his fifty and soon the win was secured. Earlier, Harshit Rana bossed the middle overs to help India skittle Australia all-out for 236 and set the stage for a classic Rohit-Kohli batting masterclass.

Australia’s innings comes to a close with it far short of a total it would be happy with. Australia started well, with Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head getting it off to a brisk start. However, India chipped away with regular wickets to keep Australia in check. Matthew Renshaw scored his maiden ODI fifty, but 236 is far less than it would have hoped for when it opted to bat first.

For India, every bowler picked up at least one wicket. Harshit Rana proved the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 39 to break through the Australian middle-order. It has managed the first half of this game very well, can the batters see it to a morale-boosting victory to end this series?

Prasidh Krishna is back into the Indian ODI side for the first time since September 2023 today. His last appearance came against Australia at Rajkot, in a series ahead of the 2023 World Cup.
