New Man United signing sends Ruben Amorim message as pre-season ambition clear - 'I'll kill it'

Manchester United are set to welcome a new signing to Carrington next week ahead of the new season beginning in August

New Manchester United signing Diego Leon has expressed his desire to 'kill it' in pre-season to muscle his way into Ruben Amorim's plans for the 2025/26 season.

The teenage left-back signed for United in the January transfer window but due to his age was unable to join his new club until the summer. Having turned 18 in April, Leon is set to arrive in England this week ahead of pre-season beginning next week.

MEN Sport understands that no plans have yet been made surrounding Leon's involvement with the first-team this season. Instead, United staff are going to observe him in training before making a final decision.

Leon is no stranger to senior football having made 33 appearances in his home country of Paraguay for Cerro Porteno. However, the Premier League is a different kettle of fish but the teenager is confident he can add something to United.

"I'm really happy, I think every player dreams of this," the full-back told Paraguayan media, as reported by the Daily Mail. "When you're a professional, you have to adapt quickly, it is a massive opportunity.

"Everyone thinks I'll go out on loan, but I don't have that mindset. I'm going to kill it in pre-season and within one or two games, I'll already be playing with them."

Leon does have an opportunity to be an option on the left flank this season. Patrick Dorgu is the first choice on that side and while Luke Shaw is a mainstay at Old Trafford, his recent injury record means United could find themselves short if they do not integrate Leon into the first-team.

The 18-year-old's first chance to impress in a match will be on July 19 when the Reds travel to Stockholm to face Leeds in pre-season. At the end of August, Leon will likely be flying back across the Atlantic to the United States for the Premier League Series against West Ham, AFC Bournemouth and Everton.

The Reds' pre-season then culminates with a home clash against Serie A side Fiorentina just over a week prior to their first Premier League match against Arsenal.
